Korean Air confidence boosted by Woori Card victory

"We showed that we can still play strong volleyball."

Korean Air Men"s Volleyball, looking to snap a four-game losing streak, broke out of its slump. Seizing the lead, Korean Air kept the spark alive to regain the lead.

Korean Air swept Woori Card 3-0 (25-22 25-14 25-16) in straight sets in the men"s Dodram 2023-2024 V League at Gyeyang Gymnasium in Incheon on Friday. While the win was unchanged, third-place Korean Air (38 points) closed the gap on leader Woori Card (42 points). It was the third consecutive victory for Woori Card in the season.

A win and a loss on the day made the difference between the two teams. Korean Air gained confidence. "We showed that we can still play strong volleyball," said Korean Air head coach Tommi Tilikainen.

For the first time this season, Jeong Jung-seok was named to the starting lineup. It was a last-minute decision for the team, but it paid off in the end.

Lim Dong-hyuk, who was the top scorer for both teams with 28 points, said, "We wanted to win before the match," adding, "If we play with this mindset, I think we can reach a ranking worthy of Korean Air."

Woori Card was demoralized. Woori Card coach Shin Young-cheol said after the game, "It"s the coach"s responsibility for not managing the players," but also said, "The players don"t work well together for some reason. I know how good our players are, but the atmosphere is different because we are in first place."

He added, "The manager"s management is important, but the most important thing is for the players to manage themselves. There are injuries, some players have colds, and it"s weird. I think we need to get the team back on track quickly."

Woori Card"s next game will be against OK Financial Group at Jangchung Gymnasium in Seoul on the 10th. "Our players are not as good individually as Korean Air," said Shin Young-cheol, "but I"m worried about how we"re going to get through this."
